School can be an overwhelming challenge for youth who are struggling with emotional, behavioral or family problems. That’s why we now offer a Day Treatment Program for kids who are having difficulty making adequate academic progress in school. The program is designed for youth who are struggling academically, are failing to make adequate academic progress, or who have dropped out of school.
Education: Participants arrive by 9 a.m. and work on GED materials. We will collaborate with EVSC so that students can earn high school credits, either by working on materials from their home school or on-line courses now offered by EVSC.
Meals: Participants are served breakfast when they arrive, lunch at noon and a snack before they leave for the day.
Group Sessions: After their morning arrival, a Community Meeting sets the tone for the day. After lunch, participants have a cognitive skills group that focuses on topics, such as self-esteem, problem-solving, anger management or healthy lifestyles or an independent living skills group.
Reward System: Participants receive monetary rewards for attendance and participation and after completing each section in the GED preparation. We also pay the cost for the GED test and provide a bonus for passing the exam.
Transportation: Participants are brought by a parent or if they are unable to provide a ride, we have a bus stop directly in front of UMYH and offer bus tokens for the city bus or participants provide their own transportation.
